Pregnancy comes hand in hand with a lot of uncertainty and the unknown, which can be incredibly difficult, especially for first time moms. So many questions. So many things to do. These are the kinds of conversations that I have with moms as a Northern Virginia maternity and newborn photographer. But Momease is here to help. They are a wealth of information to pregnant women and are absolutely worth checking out.
Momease was founded in 2004 and is based in Alexandria, VA. “Momease’s Mission is to provide new parents with easy-to-use, innovative products, practical information and evidence-based parent education classes that will enable them to explore the joys, humor and excitement of becoming a parent and prepare a new mom for her new life.” With a board of medical advisors, certified childbirth educators, and lactation consultants, Momease is an incredible resource to the expecting moms of Northern Virginia.
Once a month, Momease offers an hour long virtual class where you can meet the doulas and ask them questions. You’ll find out more about what the doulas do, hear more about some of the things Momease offers, and find out about some of their own childbirth experiences. Once you’ve made the decision to work with a doula, you’ll have your first prenatal visit where you’ll talk about your medical history and discuss what your birth preferences and priorities are. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss any fears and concerns that you might have. This visit is all about developing an initial birth plan.
As your pregnancy progresses, you’ll be able to talk to your doula over the phone and make any necessary changes to your birth plan over time. Once you’re in labor, your doula will arrive to provide you with the emotional and physical support you hired them for in the first place. Your doula will recommend comfort measures and give suggestions to your partner on how they can better assist you through labor as well. Once the baby is born, you’ll have an additional hour of support from your doula. After that, you’ll have a postpartum visit within the first two weeks.
Because of the fact that essentially no birth is the same, Momease provides eight different childbirth classes for you to choose from. You’ll find more extensive classes such as a Lamaze format class and hypnobirthing. Or you can take a less in-depth class with their Birthing Refresher and Comfort Measures class. They offer a class specifically for moms expecting multiples, and a class for single moms or solo moms whose partner can’t be at the birth. For anyone that wants to go the non-medicated route, there’s also a class specifically designed for just that. Momease has your childbirth classes covered. Now you just have to choose the right one for you.
The options for various parenting classes at Momease is impressive. If you have a parenting question, you can probably find a class about it here. You can learn all about breastfeeding. Take a basic baby care class. Inform and educate yourself with their classes about infant CPR, first aid, and car seat safety. Learn about the benefits of infant massage and how to do it yourself. Momease offers sleep management classes with a pediatric sleep expert for newborns as well as babies 4.5 to 12 months old. And if all of the above isn’t enough, you’ll also be able to take a class especially for parents with dogs. This broad range of topics definitely covers a lot of valuable ground.
Prenatal yoga is a really great exercise for expecting mothers. Not only does it help open up your hips and develop pelvic floor strength, but you’ll learn breathing and meditation techniques to help you combat nausea and fatigue during pregnancy as well as during labor. The class that they offer is a traditional hatha-flow class that has been adapted for women with no previous yoga experience to those with more advanced experience. This class is suitable for all stages of pregnancy so drop on in for a single class or purchase a package of classes.
