Before we get to the Northern Virginia yoga studios, let’s talk about exercise. Exercise is one of those things that we all know is really important for us, but we may not all place it very high on our priority lists. But staying active during pregnancy is important for your body and your mind. But please remember that you should always make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise programs to make sure it’s safe for you and your baby.
Exercising will help you feel good, and you’ll also get a boost of extra energy. Since growing a baby comes hand in hand with gaining some weight, exercise will help ensure you gain the right amount. Not all exercise is safe for pregnant women so do your research on other types of activities just to be on the safe side. Prenatal yoga is one form of exercise that will help keep you active and also even help you prepare your body for labor.
So why should you look into Northern Virginia yoga studios? Keeping active during pregnancy has benefits for both you and your baby. Prenatal yoga is great because you can double up on its benefits with the added bonus of helping your body prep for labor. You’ll find that prenatal yoga can improve your sleep and reduce stress and anxiety. Since pregnancy can interfere with sleep and cause added stress to your life, this is an incredible benefit to you. Prenatal yoga can also help with certain side effects of pregnancy like lower back pain, nausea, and headaches. The best benefit is that you’ll be increasing the strength, flexibility, and endurance of the muscles used to birth your baby.
At this Northern Virginia yoga studio located in Alexandria, they don’t have separate prenatal yoga classes, but you’ll be able to partake in any of the yoga classes that they offer on their schedule. They do ask that you let your instructor know before class that you’re pregnant. All of the instructors at 532 Yoga will be able to help you make modifications as you go. 532 Yoga is an award winning yoga studio in Northern Virginia and offers both in person and live stream classes. For more information, check out their website.
Mind the Mat has locations in Alexandria and Arlington. They offer specialized programs just for pregnancy and post-pregnancy, and these classes are offered both in studio and online. The instructors are expertly trained to keep you safe and practice effective and functional movements. You have the option to drop in for a class, or you can get a monthly unlimited membership as well as six week series. After you have your baby, Mind the Mat even offers Mommy and Me classes. Check out this Northern Virginia yoga studio here.
At Body Grace in Vienna, you’ll find another place to practice prenatal and postnatal yoga. These classes are offered in the studio as well as online and are “designed to help you adapt and adjust to changes in balance and the pelvic floor, prepare for labor, and address postnatal changes that continue for many months.” This is another place where you will be able to bring your newborn to class with you. To find out more about this Northern Virginia yoga studio, check out their website.
You’ll also want to check out Sun and Moon Yoga Studio in Arlington for their prenatal and postnatal classes. Here you will “focus on breath, community, and special modifications in yoga postures to support the prenatal and postnatal body, mind, and spirit.” You’ll have to leave your baby at home for these postnatal classes, but they do also offer a baby yoga class once your baby is six weeks old. You can find more information at this link.
